Week One: The Four Pillars of Wellness + Program Overview
‘Wellness’ is a goal many strive for, however it cannot be attained purely by what is on the plate. The holistic approach of the ‘ReNew You’ program, is that one must address the ‘Four Pillars of Wellness’ in order to achieve extraordinary health. These four pillars are based on:
Nourish- nutrition, supplementation and hydration.
Move – Exercise and body therapies
Rest – Sleep and relaxation
Emotion-Stress management and emotional well being
‘Weight loss’ is not as simple as calories in, calories out. Many factors affect the body’s ability to lose weight. During this presentation we will cover some of the obstacles and key factors to address for bio individual weight loss.
Hydration plays a key role not only in good health, but in weight management, we will discuss the optimal bio individual amount of water to consume.
Week Two: Nutrition 101 + Keys to the Program
Daily, the consumer is bombarded with messages advertising the latest magic energy vitamin or miracle drug. In the US, the industry intake is 61 billion US dollars per year and growing. Many consumers heed this advice and swallow multiple pills daily in the hopes of good health, when in fact the answer lies in consuming a real, whole food diet.
The body is an amazing machine, made up of organs and systems which function on a cellular level from the ‘fuel’ it is fed. You literally ‘are what you eat.’ The body is constantly regenerating itself, one has the ability for a ‘make over’ as new cells replenish the organs; the choice is, what are you going to be made of?
Sorting through the mine field of information especially as applies to healthy eating can be confusing and frustrating, with conflicting diet crazes flooding the media. We will explore popular diet programs, debunking many ‘fad diet’ myths and outline how the body is impacted on a cellular level by good nutrition, and a breakdown of macro and micro nutrients.
This week we cover the ‘quick start’ key to the program with a self scouring guide to select the best nutrition track.
Week Three: Blood Sugar Handling
‘Carbs’ are quick energy for the body and a necessary part of a healthy diet; however when consumed in excess, carbohydrates lead to a blood sugar imbalance and wreak havoc on health with a roller coaster of sugar highs and lows.
This imbalance can eventually contribute to a downward spiral of severe health issues such as insulin resistance and Type II diabetes, which are quite preventable and reversible through managing blood sugar balance. For a deeper understanding of self-regulating this mechanism during presentation we will cover the principle of blood sugar handling in the body.
The popularity of “high protein, low carb ‘Paleo’ type” diets, has shed unfavorable light on carbohydrates, and possibly created more confusion of what constitutes a healthy diet.
Carbohydrates are in fact crucial to overall health, and we will discuss in detail ‘good carbs vs bad carbs’, in a balanced diet ratio, the worst offenders and best choices including sugars and sweeteners.
Week Four: Good Digestion: ‘The North to South’
Every cell in the body relies on good digestion to receive the nutrients required for optimal functioning. It has been said that all diseases begin in the gut; digestion plays a crucial part in supporting overall wellness.
It is estimated that 80% of the body’s immune function relies on good digestion, yet over the counter anti acids and digestive aids are top sellers, an indication of the chronic digestive issues plaguing us as a nation. During this presentation we examine the ‘North to South’ optimal function of the digestive system, and the impact of dysfunction on general wellness.
Week Five: Good Fats, Bad Fats
“Low Fat, No Fat;” the popularity of these diets in the eighties made fats the unfair villain, leading to unbalanced high carbohydrate diets resulting in significant deficiencies in the body and a host of health issues.
Perhaps the most misunderstood nutritional factor, good dietary fats and cholesterol are indeed essential to good metabolic function, and bad fats extremely damaging.
The cholesterol ‘myth’, for years dietary cholesterol and saturated fat have been blamed for cardiovascular disease, astonishing key evidence will be covered debunking this theory, supported by the 2015 USDA recommendations.
Inflammation in the body is major contributor to pain and disease, and can be effectively managed through an anti-inflammatory diet, and consuming the right “good fats.”
During this crucial segment, discussion is on “key essential fats” and their role in optimal wellness. We will focus on the best fats to cook with, use unheated and which to simply leave at the store.
