One of the most popular super foods on the planet, Kale earned this spot as it is truly a nutrition powerhouse, rich in antioxidants and vitamins.

A cruciferous vegetable related to broccoli, cabbage and brussel sprouts, kale is loaded with antioxidants including beta carotene, vitamins K,  and iron. Kale is available in may varieties, such as the smoother straighter Lancino Kale, deep purple Kale, the bouncy curly Kale or ‘baby’ Kale, which is generally a blend harvested young.

Now we all know we should be eating this fabulous ‘food armour’, but quite frankly it quite often just doesn’t taste so great! The trick to enhancing the slightly peppery bitter taste of kale, is to blend it with sweet, crunch elements and a tangy dressing.

I this recipe, I blend the kale with crunchy Jicima, which is an amazing prebiotic food (feeding the good gut bacteria!), and bright golden beets, a great detoxifying food. To pretty up the salad I added watermelon radish in julienne strips, regular radish would work fine too.

Dress this fabulous salad with the tangy Cranberry Ginger Vinaigrette, enjoy alone, with a some protein added, or as a component to the ‘Bountiful Bowls’ recipe.

Bio Individual Blueprin

When it comes to dietary choices, I am a huge advocate of no ‘one size fits all’, and exciting advances in DNA technology has helped paved the way to unlock bio individual dietary blueprints.

Yes! The power of the plate! Your DNA is your ‘hardware’, and all of these epigenetic factors is the ‘software’, that can literally decide how your operating system is going to run.

No matter what your nutrition program of choice, unprocessed plant based foods high in fiber provide a nutrient rich antioxidant longevity boost.

Bountiful Plant Power!

Trending in the foodie world right now are  large bowls piled high with an assortment of choices such as grain, salad or protein, and generally drizzled with a sauce.

Vibrant, bountiful bowl, overflowing with vitality,  and most appealing, I decided to coin my own Taste of Healing phrase for this dish, behold the “Bountiful Bowl”! With no hard and fast rules as to what ingredients comprise a Bountiful Bowl, the key a composed arrangement rather than tossed together.

Feeling a little frazzled by the everyday stresses of life?

Stress, be it from poor diet, toxins, physical or emotions stress or illness, has an enormous impact on the body. In fact, the state of our health can be directly measured by the length and health of our telomeres.

Telomere (tel-uh-meer) from the Greek telos (end) and meros (part)

So what exactly are telomeres?

Inside the nucleus of a cell, our genes are arranged along twisted, double-stranded molecules of DNA called chromosomes. At the ends of the chromosomes are stretches of DNA called telomeres, which protect our genetic data, make it possible for cells to divide, and hold some secrets to how we age and possible tendency to disease.

Your Genetic ‘Hardware’

Our genetic ‘hardware’ inside the nucleus of the cells, is arranged along the twisted double strand of. The telomeres are the little caps at the end of the strands of DNA, protecting the chromosomes from fraying and unraveling.

Our cells are constantly replicating and replenishing, however, each time the telomeres are just a little shorter, even though the DNA remains unchanged. Telomeres are pretty much your aging clock, as eventually they get too short to do their job properly, causing the cells to age.

How old are you really?

Measuring the telomeres represents your biological age versus your chronological age. In a  nutshell, short telomeres, equals premature aging!

Sounds depressing huh?!

Now here’s the good news, your DNA is your hardware, but you have the ability to run your ‘software program’, meaning that by taking control of your health, you can control your genetic expression and aging process!

So how can you do that?

Taking control of the aging process means taking control of unchecked inflammation in the body, and considering factors such as lifestyle changes, exercise, stress reduction and proper sleep.

The underlying causes of inflammation could be an imbalance of gut ecology, known as the microbiota, chronic infection, or allergies, these are the ‘virus on the motherboard’, and all contribute to accelerated again.

Genetic testing has become easy and affordable, a simple test revealing a treasure trove of valuable and life changing information. By understanding your unique genetic structure, you can take control of your health and well being by understanding how your DNA interacts to impact your weight and overall health.

How does it work? We begin with a simple saliva test, which reveals a treasure trove of raw data, your SNP’s which stand for single nucleotide polymorphism, listing your unique DNA code. By studying the keys to your unique code , this shows  how well the methylation pathways are functioning, (which is the body’s ability to break down and use specific nutrients),  which types of nutrients best suit your body and the metabolic diet type best suited to you.

Your Genetics Are Not Your Destiny!

The good news is your genetic code is not your destiny, your genetic code is inherited but you have the ability with the right diet and exercise program suited to YOUR bio individual needs to control your genetic expression and take your health to the next level!
